Second meeting of the Global Education First Initiative Steering Committee

NEW YORK, 12 April 2013 – The Steering Committee of the Global Education First Initiative will meet in Washington, D.C. on 18 April to develop concrete opportunities for collective action that will spur progress towards the 2015 education goals, raise the visibility of education on the global development agenda, and unlock additional resources for education.

Representatives of the Group of Member State Champion Countries will also provide an overview of their engagement with the Initiative. Expected outcomes of the meeting include an agenda of collective actions, timeline of actions, and a shared vision of expected results for the Initiative.  

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is Chair of the Steering Committee. Committee members that will be in attendance include executive heads of UN agencies, leaders of global education organizations, and two representatives from the group of Champion Countries.

The Committee meeting occurs around the 2013 World Bank – IMF Spring Meetings and Learning for All Ministerial meeting, co-hosted by the United Nations Secretary-General, President of the World Bank Group, and UN Special Envoy for Global Education.
